This project supports the APEC Framework on Connectivity to deepen and expand connectivity in the APEC region as stated in Bali Declaration 2013. As connectivity can be prone to the threat of disruption, including that posed by terrorists, it needs wide-ranging efforts to be exerted by all APEC stakeholders, including private sector. To this extent, a strong collaboration between public and private sectors as well as sharing of information between member economies is essentially needed in order to enhance security and efficiency of connectivity in the APEC region, particularly in transportation sector.
The convening of the 9th STAR Conference will foster task-oriented cooperation among APEC member economies to facilitate secure, efficient and resilient movement of goods and people in ensuring overall transportation security in the APEC region.
The conference will also evolve best practices in securing transportation systems of APEC Economies, explore the role of private sector and contribute to enhancing public-private partnership in promoting secure physical and people-to-people connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region.
