The APEC Vocational Training Project in Cooperation with Enterprises aims to contribute to human resources development in developing economies within the APEC region by providing basic vocational training, in collaboration with local Japanese affiliated firms, to local residents unemployed. Those people who acquired knowledge and skills through the training improve their employability and are expected to be employed by local firms or to set up business by their own. Furthermore, the project contributes to public-private collaboration as the APEC theme goes in respect that local Japanese affiliated firms are implementing the training, which also has a significant role to enhance friendly relations between Japan and local economies. The target economies have been selected annually by certain rotation among APEC developing economies. The project has started from JFY1996, and the number of the participants reaches 16,461 so far (as of March 31, 2013).
For JFY2014, we are going to implement continued training courses in Indonesia and Chile. We are also planning to start to implement in one economy that was chosen out of the other developing economies.
